Live Online Session – Introduction to VoNR

by | Apr 27, 2026

This course introduces Voice over New Radio (VoNR), the technology enabling voice services over 5G standalone networks. It explains how the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) supports voice delivery and how it integrates with the 5G New Radio (NR) access network. You will explore the key drivers behind VoNR adoption, including the move away from legacy fallback solutions.

The course also covers the end-to-end architecture, outlining how IMS, policy control, and charging systems work together to support voice services. In addition, it walks through essential procedures such as subscriber provisioning, IMS registration, and call establishment using SIP signalling.

Finally, the course examines how VoNR interacts with existing technologies, including interworking with 4G and Wi-Fi calling, as well as handover and fallback mechanisms. This provides a practical foundation for understanding voice services in modern 5G environments.

Key Topics

  • VoNR concepts and standardization
  • 5G NR and IMS architecture
  • Registration and initial procedures
  • Call establishment and QoS
