Crout and Telefónica Deutschland launch 2CoreSIM: dual network profiles

Crout, the global IoT connectivity venture of melita.io and part of the Melita Group of Companies, has partnered with Telefónica Deutschland to bring 2CoreSIM to market. The product is aimed at IoT deployments where a lost connection is an operational risk rather than an inconvenience.2CoreSIM by Crout and Telfonica Germany

Each profile runs on a separate operator’s network. Melita Limited is a Maltese mobile and fixed network operator, backed by Infrastructure at Goldman Sachs Alternatives, and Crout, its IoT connectivity venture, has direct access to Melita’s network and international roaming footprint. Telefónica Deutschland provides the other network.

ON-SIM FAILOVER

What separates 2CoreSIM from conventional roaming is where the switching intelligence lives. Rather than hopping between the radio networks of various operators, the SIM itself holds two complete, independently operated network profiles: one routed through Telefónica Deutschland’s network, the other through Melita’s. Logic on the card continuously checks connection quality. If the primary path becomes unavailable because of a coverage gap, a local outage or a core network failure, the SIM moves to the secondary profile on its own.

From the device side nothing changes. There is one APN, one device configuration and one managed connectivity service, whichever profile is live underneath, with no companion app and no manual reconfiguration in the field. Looking ahead, Crout intends to extend the switching logic beyond terrestrial cellular to further connectivity layers, including satellite and short-range radio.

“Crout develops IoT solutions for companies that view connectivity not as an add-on, but as part of their core business. If temperature data doesn’t arrive, a logistics problem becomes a quality risk, or if video surveillance and alarm systems fail, this can lead to immediate security risks and financial consequences. Together with Telefónica Deutschland, we are bringing resilient connectivity to places where outages are particularly costly, risky, or business-critical.”

THE NETWORK ARRANGEMENT

Telefónica Deutschland contributes its German mobile network, with a modern core and antenna infrastructure spanning more than 29,000 sites. Crout contributes its IoT engineering experience, direct access to Melita’s network and international roaming footprint, and working relationships with customers in the target verticals. The initial launch focuses on business-critical IoT deployments in Germany.

“The partnership with Crout demonstrates how strong networks, IoT expertise, and intelligent SIM technology come together to create a solution that gives companies greater reliability and operational control.”

TARGET DEPLOYMENTS

The first wave of target use cases covers logistics, where 2CoreSIM is designed to keep high-value goods, containers and cash-in-transit vehicles trackable without interruption; food retail and pharmaceutical cold chains, where it supports more reliable transmission of temperature data; and healthcare, where it is built to carry vital-sign and device data without gaps. Industrial operators can keep sensors, machinery, security systems and backup infrastructure reachable when a primary connection drops, while operators of water treatment plants, pumping stations and energy networks gain a second path for continuous monitoring. The same logic applies to flood and wildfire early-warning systems, where a missed alert carries consequences far beyond the cost of connectivity itself.
